La Chiesa della Natività della Vergine nella frazione di Rivara

Questa chiesa ubicata nella frazione di Rivara è stata solennemente riaperta al culto nel giugno 2019 dopo un lungo restauro. E’ dedicata alla Natività di Maria Vergine. I documenti ne parlano fin dal 1291. Fu ricostruita nel ‘400, successivamente ampliata e restaurata nell’800 e nel ‘900. La facciata è scandita da quattro paraste che sorreggono un timpano. Il campanile, di origine quattrocentesca, è stato modificato successivamente. L’interno è ad un’unica navata e ha tre cappelle per lato. Raccoglie un buon numero di paliotti in scagliola e di dipinti antichi. Tra questi vanno segnalati la tavola cinquecentesca sulla parete dell’abside dietro l’altare maggiore raffigurante la Natività di Maria, dipinto recentemente identificato come di mano del ferrarese Giuseppe Mazzuoli detto il Bastarolo; nella cappella della Madonna del Rosario il dipinto omonimo con la Madonna, San Domenico e i Misteri dell’artista cremonese Carlo Natali datato al 1626 e nella prima cappella a destra entrando la grande tela con l’Annunciazione del veronese Giovanni Camuzzoni degli inizi del ‘600.

This church, located in the hamlet of Rivara, was solemnly reopened for worship in June 2019 after extensive restoration work. It is dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. Documents mention it as early as 1291. It was rebuilt in the 15th century, then enlarged and restored in the 19th and 20th centuries. The façade is marked by four pilasters supporting a tympanum. The bell tower, dating back to the 15th century, was modified later. The interior has a single nave and three chapels on each side. It houses a large number of scagliola altar frontals and ancient paintings. Among these are the 16th-century panel on the apse wall behind the high altar depicting the Nativity of Mary, a painting recently identified as the work of Giuseppe Mazzuoli, known as Il Bastarolo, from Ferrara; in the chapel of the Madonna del Rosario, the painting of the same name with the Madonna, St. Dominic, and the Mysteries by the Cremonese artist Carlo Natali, dated 1626; and in the first chapel on the right as you enter, the large canvas depicting the Annunciation by the Veronese artist Giovanni Camuzzoni from the early 17th century.
